PING KWON DO

“Pik Lik Kung enhances and strengthens, Self-awareness, Self-discipline, Integrity, responsibility, loyalty, and Cooperation among its practitioners” The World P.K.D. Federation

Pik Lik Kung translates into English as “Lightning Fist Way”.   It is a thought and a product of modern martial art evolution.  It can trace much of its influences from arts and styles over 2000 years old.

Pik Lik Kung is a hybrid martial art that includes elements from various different art forms such as Kung fu, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Chinese Boxing.  It also incorporates the close-quarter combat arts of Judo, Aikido, Jiu-Jitsu and has a strong representation of the art of Sambo and Chin Na.

PIK LIK KUNG PHILOSOPHY

“I come to you with empty hands bearing no ill will.  But if I am forced to defend my life, my family, my home or my beliefs, then here are my weapons, my empty hands”.

OUR STATEMENT

Respect for others comes first.  It is our strong belief that everyone should treat others with the same respect as they would like to see others give to them. We take this seriously and try to incorporate these ethics into our daily lives.  Self control improves with reinforcement from the instructors and the confidence the student gains knowing that they are developing the ability to defend themselves.

OUR RULE

If any student was to use his or her martial arts ability for anything other than self defense, then they risk being prohibited from ever studying at our school again.  These values do not conflict with what most morally-conscious people believe.

Tournaments

While we are proud of how much we have accomplished in many major events that we attended over the years, competing in tournaments is not a priority in our academy.  We look at our practices as a learning experience that helps students to better understand their own style, respect other styles, and develop a positive healthy attitude to the sport aspect of martial arts.

Competition is never made mandatory and is always thought to the kids as a “fun first” experience not a “winning is everything” doctrine.  We emphasize that the reward is the learning, not the trophy.

We teach that a student always learns more from a loss than from a win. This we have always taught, and this is our philosophy at Lightning Fist Martial Arts Academy in the Pik Lik Kung Style.

TAI CHI CHUAN

Highly recognized as an exercise form for improving health, Tai Chi Chuan is also a formidable martial art. As an exercise for the mind and body the practice of Tai Chi Chuan has many benefits. The slow rhythmic movements gently exercise the muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons improving ones flexibility and coordination without causing some of the joint and muscle problems associated with more aggressive forms of exercise. The diaphragmatic or natural breathing method employed, increases the oxygen levels in the blood. Higher levels of oxygen provide greater elimination of toxins within the organs and throughout the body. Tai Chi is not a mindless floating exercise. Throughout the practice the mind is focused intently on the energy flow within the body. For this and other reasons it is referred to as an “Internal” martial art. The continued practice of Tai Chi has been proven to be effective against such chronic ailments as Arthritis, Insomnia, Back Pain, Asthma, Poor Circulation and more.

CHINESE KICKBOXING (WUSHU SANSHOU)

Wushu is an officially recognized sport by the International Olympic Committee representing the essence of the Chinese Martial Arts. Wushu includes non-combative Taolu or Routine Competition as well as full-contact Free Fighting Sanda Competition.

MUAY THAI KICKBOXING

Muay Thai is referred to as “The Science of Eight Limbs”, as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art.

A master practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight “points of contact,” as opposed to “two points” (fists) in Western boxing and “four points” (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts. As well as a proven superior overall striking art, Muay Thai Kickboxing is also a National Sport of Thailand
